California's Devastating Big One Strikes on October 17, 1992
Psychic Ernesto Montgomery Set California's Big One for October 17, 1992: 'I Have an Antenna Behind Each Ear'
A clairvoyant claiming 99.5 percent accuracy picked the third anniversary of the Loma Prieta quake for the big one. He picked the date nearly two years ahead.
What was claimed (paraphrase)
the date of that devastating California earthquake everybody keeps predicting was pegged for Oct. 17, the third anniversary of the Loma Prieta quake
— Ernesto A. Moshe Montgomery (psychic) · said 1990 · due October 17, 1992
October 17, 1992 passed without the big one. The Bay Area Skeptics listed it among the psychics' failed predictions for 1992.
The fine print
The Bay Area Skeptics' wording, not Montgomery's. They say he 'claims an accuracy of 99 1/2 percent.' In January 1991 the Los Angeles Times listed the date as 'Still to come,' picked the year before by a clairvoyant who said: 'I have an antenna behind each ear and they throb when an earthquake is coming.'
