Earth's Poles Flip on December 21, 2012, Triggering a Global Cataclysm
Belgian Author Patrick Geryl Set December 21, 2012 for a Sudden Pole Shift, and Built a Bunker in South Africa
He quit his job in 2006 to prepare, wrote nine books on it and spent more than $130,000 on survival gear. The poles stayed put.
What was claimed (paraphrase)
Geryl believes that a shift in the Earth's poles is going to result in solar flares, volcanic eruptions and earthquakes that will throw the world into a nuclear meltdown. The dreaded event will occur on December 21, when the Mayan calendar allegedly ends, he said.
— Patrick Geryl (Belgian author, How to Survive 2012 and The World Cataclysm in 2012) · said 2009 · due December 21, 2012
December 21, 2012 passed. The magnetic poles did not flip and there was no nuclear meltdown.
The fine print
The New York Post in 2009: 'An increase in solar activity will cause the earth's magnetic poles to reverse suddenly on December 20 or 21, 2012, causing catastrophic earthquakes and floods.' Geryl had 'formed a survival group of about 20 people' planning to buy land in Africa. He is the named owner of one version of the general 2012 scare: maya-2012.
