What was claimed (paraphrase)
a nuclear war would begin on April 29, 1980
— Leland Jensen (founder, Baha'is Under the Provisions of the Covenant, Missoula, Montana) · said 1979 · due Tuesday, April 29, 1980
April 29, 1980 passed. A sociologist spent the night in the shelters with the group, which is how we know. Jensen then said the Tribulation had begun anyway.
The Story
The quote is the study's summary of Jensen's 1979 proclamation. Balch et al. report the prediction 'was specific down to the minute'; members built fallout shelters, and Jensen let his own be photographed for the local paper's front page.
Robert Balch and two students spent the night of April 29, 1980 in the group's shelters. Afterwards Jensen said the seven-year Tribulation had commenced on April 29. His next date: jensen-halley-1986.
