Brides of the Lamb See the Sign at Midnight, February 6, 1925

Prophet Promised Jesus on 'a Dark Cloud' at Midnight, Feb. 6, 1925. He Got 'a Brightly Shining Moon'

Margaret Rowen set February 6, 1925 for Christ's return; Robert Reidt promised the sign at midnight. At midnight he said: 'it doesn't look as if anything is going to happen tonight.'

What was said

“those who are the brides of the Lamb will turn their faithful eyes to the east and they shall see the sign. Jesus shall they see, mounted on a dark cloud, surrounded by brilliant light that shall blind the eyes of the wicked to deprive them of their sight.”

— Margaret Rowen (breakaway Adventist prophetess, Hollywood) and Robert Reidt (her New York promoter) · said 1925 · due Midnight, Friday, February 6, 1925

Midnight came and went with 'a brightly shining moon'. Reidt's verdict, on the spot: 'Well, it doesn't look as if anything is going to happen tonight.'

The Story

Rowen claimed to succeed Ellen White, a Seventh-day Adventist founder; the church said there was no evidence her visions were of 'divine origin'. She predicted Christ would come on February 6, 1925, and Robert Reidt, a New York wallpaper-hanger, took up the prophecy.

The 144,000 chosen were to gather in the woods near San Diego, stop on Jupiter ('for the holy shall not travel on the Sabbath') and go on to heaven. Reidt's prophecy opened 'At midnight on Friday'. The New York Times covered it on the front page and sat up with Reidt that night (as summarised by Voice of San Diego).
